Finnish Opera Singer Aino Ackté to Covent Garden

The famous Finnish opera singer Aino Ackté was was given the eponymous role in the opera Salome at Covent Garden. The composer himself requested Ackté for the role.

The Finnish newspaper Savo writes that the Salome opera has a biblical theme and has so far been banned in England. However, after much effort, the director of the Covent Garden opera house, Mr Beecham, has finally received permission to perform the opera. The Finnish opera singer Aino Ackté will play the lead role and she was personally recommended to Beecham by the composer himself, Richard Strauss.
